1920 – 2013

LEWISTON — Therese “Terry” M. Tardif, 93, of Lewiston, the last living member of her generation and Maine native, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11.

Terry, the first-born child of Odilon Fortin and Marguerite Chouinard, was born on Aug. 29, 1920, in Lewiston. She attended St. Bernadette School in Lisbon, and worked in the shoe shops and textile mills. She also worked as a buyer for Ward Bros. for many years. She retired in 1980.

Terry was first married to Roger A. Turmenne on Oct. 8, 1938. They had one son, Robert Regis Turmenne, before Roger was killed in Germany in World War II on Feb. 14, 1945. Terry was remarried to Leon “Leo” Tardif on June 28, 1952; they had one daughter, Susan Tardif-Poole.

Terry enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, sewing, traveling and golfing vacations in Florida, with her husband, Leo. They were members of the Prospect Hill Golf Club.

Terry is survived by one son, Robert Regis Turmenne, and his spouse, Beverly, of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Susan Tardif-Poole and her spouse, Mark, of Monmouth; four grandchildren, Michelle Turmenne-Foster and Mark Turmenne, both of Denver, Colo., Laurel Poole-Keorpes of Frankfort, Ill., and Ashley Poole-Shannak of Brookline, N.H.; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Terry was predeceased by her parents, Odilon and Marguerite Fortin; two husbands, Roger A. Turmenne of seven years and Leon “Leo” Tardif of 59 years; three brothers, Bertrand “Bucky” Fortin, Lawrence “Pete” Fortin and Jake “J.A.” Fortin; and four sisters, Fernande “Fern” Marr, Georgette Mann, Reinette Pruneau and Lucille Smith.
