1928 – 2013

LEWISTON — Alec J. Skirmont, 85, of Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 19, 1928, a son of the late Anthony and Agota (Gendrolis) Skirmont. He grew up in the Lewiston area and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1946. After high school, Alec enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a radio communications specialist for 25 years. While overseas, he met his wife, Frieda, and together they were married on Sept. 29, 1961, at the Karlsruhe North Chapel in Braden, Germany.

After retiring from the Army and being back home in Maine, Alec was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for 22 years for Philips Elmet as a machinist in Lewiston, until he retired. Alec loved working outside and taking care of his yard. He was also an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan, and enjoyed watching both teams play.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Frieda “Ellen” Skirmont, of Lewiston; and very close family friends, Irene and Roger Roy of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Barbara Skirmont.
