1926 – 2013

AUBURN — Kenneth E. White, 87, of Oxford, passed away following a long illness early Friday morning, Nov. 15, at the Hospice House, with his family by his side.

Ken was born in Auburn on June 30, 1926, the son of Harry P. and Jenny M. (Leach) White. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific theater on the USS Guam, being honorably discharged in June 1946. Following the war, he married Mary (Merrow) White on April 10, 1947, until she passed away in February 1994.

Ken was an Auburn firefighter for 25 years, retiring on Sept. 19, 1982. He was an old “firehorse” and still missed his job ’till the day he died. In retirement, he devoted his time to keeping his lawn immaculate — there was no long grass ever to be found for miles.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Pat Cummings; his dog, “Angel;” his daughter, Ginna Eastman and husband, Dan Asselin; a granddaughter, Lisa Eastman; and two great-grandsons, Tom and Clarence Carter; as well as Ken’s extended family, Carol Walker and husband Phin, Wayne Cummings Jr., and Joseph Cummings and wife, Sarah, and all their children.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Pearl and Frances White, Virginia Eretzian and Dawn Rowe.
