1924 – 2013

GORHAM — Anna B. Riordan, 89, formerly of Somerset Street, Rumford, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, at the Gorham House, Gorham,  where she had resided the last four years.

She was born July 3, 1924, in Mexico, the youngest of three children of Clelia Vechiona and Vito Buccina. She graduated from Mexico High School with the Class of 1941.

Anna worked for 12 years as a secretary to Fred Hanscom, a Rumford attorney and Municipal Court Judge; and for 25 years as office manager and secretary in the family real estate business, Swift River Realty.

She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church and former member of the Mexico Mother’s Club. Anna enjoyed a variety of crafts and was an avid skier. Above all she was a devoted wife and mother, an advocate for her children, and one who demonstrated unconditional love for her family. She loved family gatherings especially around the holidays or at the family camp.

She was married in Rumford on Nov. 21, 1952, to James D. Riordan who survives of Westbrook. Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Starr of Scarborough and Judith Willette and husband, Kent, of Yarmouth; a son, Hugh Riordan of South China; four grandchildren, Kristin Starr Macisso, Kate Riordan, James O. Riordan and Julie Riordan; two great grandchildren, Anna and Lily Macisso; and her sister, Mary Buccina of Mexico.

She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Joseph Buccina.
