Technology petting zoo
PARIS — The Maine State Library’s Technology Petting Zoo will visit the Paris Public Library on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23.
E-books, readers and tablets are growing in popularity, with a wide variety of different devices available. For the purpose of providing hands-on familiarization and comparison between the varying e-readers and tablets, the Maine State Library created a “Technology Petting Zoo” of devices, including the Nook SimpleTouch (e-reader), Kindle Fire (tablet), Kindle PaperWhite (e-reader), Apple iPad Mini (tablet), Nook HD+ (tablet) and a Google Nexus (tablet).
With electronic devices for reading e-books being popular gifts during the holiday season, the Technology Petting Zoo’s visit will allow people to handle and compare an assortment of gadgets outside of a store and before making a holiday purchase.
At 1 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 23, Jennifer Lewis of the library staff will provide a guided tour of the devices’ different features. Also, the devices will be available at the circulation desk from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and during the morning Saturday for anyone interested in trying them out.
