PORTLAND — The Choral Art Society will celebrate the season with its annual Messiah Sing-Along at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford Street.

The Messiah Sing-Along will be conducted by CAS Music Director Robert Russell. The Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra will accompany.

Messiah, an oratorio composed by George Frideric Handel, was first performed in 1742. Today it is traditionally sung during the Christmas holiday season. The holiday Sing-Along welcomes singers of all levels and Russell invites all interested singers to join in on solo passages. Attendance has grown steadily each year as the Sing-Along becomes part of many holiday traditions. Participants are encouraged to bring a Messiah score, which will also be available to borrow.

Admission is $5; there is no charge for students. Non-perishable food and cash donations will be taken at the door. The performance will benefit Project FEED (Food Emergency Exchange Depot). The program provides food temporarily to individuals and families in crisis while they find a more stable food source. More information on the program can be found at www.projectfeed.org.
