1928 – 2013
JAY — Marilyn Anthony Gagnon, a lifelong resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, with her family by her side at her daughter and son-in- law’s home in Jay.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. She was born on Oct. 11, 1928 (her mother’s birthday), the daughter of the late George and Methyl Anthony of West Auburn. Marilyn graduated from Edward Little High School in 1945 and then the Maine School of Commerce. For many years she was employed by the Auburn school department as a school secretary at both Fairview and Washburn schools. After retiring from the school department, and being a gregarious person, she continued to work at Porteous and then retired from Bates College after many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and a very gifted artist, a talent that was passed on to her grandson. Golf was a passion of hers and she spent immeasurable hours on the course as a long time member of Poland Spring Golf Club where she was fortunate to score a hole-in-one. Her golfing friends, and many others, remained loyal to her. She was also a member of the Stevens Mills Grange and a CMMC volunteer.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Gail and her husband, Joseph Conrad, of Jay, her daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Craig Beaulieu, of Portland; her grandson, Cade of Portland, Ore.; and a dear sister-in-law, Carol Anthony of Auburn. She leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, friends and a special neighbor, Richard. Many thanks to the AHCH staff for their care and support.
She was predeceased by her brother, George (Bill) Anthony; her husband, Henry (Hank) Gagnon; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
You are invited to share your thoughts, condolences and fond memories of Marilyn through her guestbook at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
