RUMFORD — October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month and students at Mountain Valley High School wanted to do something to help. The Civil Rights Team and the Student Council teamed up to make a difference for those who suffer from domestic violence.
Civil Rights President Joey Robichaud explained, “The Civil Rights team decided to gather personal hygiene items for families who have to leave their homes quickly. We wanted to get everyone involved so we set up a competition. The homeroom with the most items donated would win a pizza party.”
Ken Baker’s sophomore homeroom and Tom Danylik’s junior homeroom tied, so both will receive a pizza party.
Meanwhile, the Student Council approached it a little differently. They put money they earned at the Homecoming Dance to good use.
Student Council President Ellie Hall said, “The Student Council gave a check for $100 to Safe Voices so they could buy some of the things that they didn’t receive from the homerooms.”
Regardless of the approach, MVHS students made a difference in the community.
