FARMINGTON (AP) — University of Maine System trustees have adopted a resolution aimed at expanding recruitment of international students at campuses across the state.

UMS Chancellor James Page has said increasing the number of international students in the system will improve diversity and create a new source of tuition revenue.

On Monday, trustees received a report on enrollment, which was down 2 percent this fall, largely because of a 4.7 percent drop in graduate student enrollment.

But Page said there were some encouraging signs. He said the number of out-of-state students grew 6.3 percent, and that three of the campuses saw overall enrollment increases.
