1925 – 2013

AUBURN — Hazel A. Thurlow, 88, of Mechanic Falls, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 17, at Clover Health Care.

She was born in Mechanic Falls on July 26, 1925, to Forest Alonzo Austin and Florence Harriet Rowe Austin. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School and attended Farmington State Teacher’s College for one year.

Hazel served as a teacher’s aide for more than 20 years at Elm Street School in her hometown. For many years, she was the pianist and organist for the Advent Christian Church in Oxford, where she was a member. Christian music was a major ingredient in the life of Hazel and her family.

She loved her family and enjoyed preparing huge dinners for the holidays. She was an excellent cook and many people were blessed by her warmth and generous hospitality. Hazel appreciated nature and found much pleasure in feeding the birds and her tamed chipmunks.

She was loved by all who knew her and her love for Jesus showed through her life. She will be missed by all.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Thelma Kilbreth and her husband, Stephen, of Mechanic Falls; her two grandsons, Glen Kilbreth, his wife, Naomi, and their four children, Nemo, Daphney, Atlas and Amelia, of Hebron and Heath Kilbreth, his wife, Vanessa, and their soon-to-be-born son, Forest Lee, of Mechanic Falls; and her niece, Bryann MacDonald and her husband, Charles, of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Alfred M. Thurlow Jr.; their son, Forest Alan, who died as a child; and her two sisters, Ann Corbett and Thelma McMullin.
