Directed by Tom Snow, the jazz concert will feature both the full 18-member Jazz Band and the 10-piece improvisational Jazz Combo, both comprising Bates students.

Their eclectic repertoire features jazz, Latin jazz, funk and blues. Students will play music by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Tower of Power, George Gershwin, Michael Jackson, Duke Ellington and others.

The Steel Pan Orchestra, using authentic instruments from the West Indies, plays jazz and other styles blended into the Caribbean sound. Directed by Erica Butler, the orchestra is known for its driving energy and upbeat mood.

Göran Söllscher

Söllscher is internationally acclaimed, celebrated for his virtuosity and for a repertoire reaching from the Baroque to the Beatles to the present.

His Bates program, performed on an unusual 11-string alto guitar, features several works by J.S. Bach, in addition to music by other Baroque composers, a medley of Swedish folk songs and a contemporary piece by Arvo Pärt.
