I understand that at the next Auburn City Council meeting, on Dec. 2, the council will be voting on whether or not to continue funding the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council.

For as far back as I can remember, past councils have asked for and have yet to receive any sort of accountability from the Growth Council.

In my humble opinion, the Growth Council has — and still — takes up too much of the council’s time with never-ending discussions.

It is also of my opinion that it is time for the city of Auburn to cut ties with the Growth Council and discontinue funding this entity.

On Monday, Dec. 2, I hope and pray that the council does the right thing for the taxpayers of Auburn and votes not to continue funding the LAEGC.

We need to take a leap of faith and trust that our in-house economic development department can and will move this great city forward in a prosperous direction.

All politics are local, so I beg taxpayers to, please, get involved. If people can’t attend council meetings, they should call councilors or write to them. The councilors work for us.
