1924 – 2013
LEWISTON — Lois E. Leavitt, 89, of Whitney Street in Auburn, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Herkimer, N.Y., on Sept. 6, 1924, a daughter of the late Merle and Almy (Ray) Tompkins. Lois married Leonard Leavitt on March 7, 1945; he predeceased her on July 8, 1992.
She was a homemaker in her early years in Turner, while she raised her children. Later, she became a swimming instructor at the YMCA in Auburn for more than 30 years.
She leaves two daughters, Kathleen Rose and husband, Blaine, and Cynthia Berube and husband, Tad; two sons, Christopher Leavitt and wife, Joan, and Bruce Leavitt and wife, Marjorie; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Tuttle.
She was predeceased by a son, Dane Leonard; a sister, Jane Timer; and a brother, William Tompkins.
