1927 – 2013

FARMINGTON — Dorothy W. “Dot” Bryant, 86, of Farmington, passed in the early morning hours of Saturday Nov. 30, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 3, 1927, in North Jay, a daughter of Carl B. and Estella Lena (Merrill) Wright and was raised on their farm on Macomber Hill. She attended Jay High School for two years and transferred to Wilton Academy, graduating in 1945.

On Nov. 17, 1946, she married William F. Bryant of Farmington. Two weeks ago, she and her husband were recognized at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church for celebrating 67 years of marriage.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, raising two daughters and lovingly caring for her parents, she also was employed for several years by Food-O-Mat, where she served food at Farmington Shoe. She also managed the Farmington Thrift Store until her retirement in 1992. During her retirement, she enjoyed working in the exhibition booth at Farmington Fair.

In 1955, she became a member of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. A woman of deep faith, she served her faith community in a variety of ways through committee work, helping at CARES luncheons and as a member of the Irene Luce Philathea.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, picking berries, going on shopping trips or out to eat, taking family trips and sharing in family get-togethers.

Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Bryant of Farmington; two daughters, Beverly B. Coolidge and her husband, Nelson, of East Dixfield, and Ann Bryant of Farmington, and her grandson, William B. Davenport, who has faithfully cared for her at her home for more than a year; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, “sister” Helen (Pratt) Tolman of Dallas, Texas.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Everett and Myron Wright, and her sister, Gladys White Sampson.
