1917 – 2013
AUBURN — Fernande A. Simard, 96, of St. Mary’s Residences, 100 Campus Ave., Lewiston, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, at the the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, with her family at her side.
She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 16, 1917, a daughter of the late Thomas and Marie (Levesque) St. Pierre. On Jan. 8, 1944, she married Theodore G. Simard in Lewiston at St. Peter’s Church. Together they worked and raised their young family in Lewiston, until Theodore’s death on Feb. 10, 1963. She worked at the Libby Mill for several years and at Billen Shoe, before retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Holy Cross Church and Holy Cross Senior Citizens. Playing bingo and cards were two of her favorite pastimes. She also volunteered for the Holy Cross lunch program for several years, but her greatest joy in life was time spent with her grandchild and great-grandchildren.
Fernande is survived by two children, Joan Tardif and husband, Nel, of Old Orchard Beach and Richard Simard and wife, June, of Greene; one grandson, Scott Tardif and wife, Donna, of Dresden; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Juliana Tardif.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Theodore; one sister; and seven brothers.
