BERWICK (AP) — A judge has doubled the bail of a registered sex offender from Berwick charged with trying to lure young girls into his vehicle after two more girls came forward.
A judge Wednesday at the request of prosecutors doubled 23-year-old Kevin Weeden’s bail to $50,000.
He did not enter a plea and his court-appointed lawyer had no comment.
Two fifth-grade girls told police Tuesday that they had been approached by a man who offered them candy. Their description led police to Weeden. Police say since then, two more elementary-school age girls have come forward to say they too were approached. None of the girls was hurt.
Prosecutors said Weeden was previously convicted of a sex crime against a child while stationed with the U.S. Army in Italy.
