RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Rumford Falls Auditorium to continue discussion on requests from the Park Commission and the Police Department for new vehicles.

Rumford police Chief Stacy Carter told selectmen at their Nov. 21 meeting that he was looking to replace the 2008 Ford Expedition cruiser with a 2013 or 2014 Ford Police Pursuit SUV all-wheel drive.

The low bid of $21,876 came from Rowe Auburn.

After the request for the new police cruiser was defeated, Selectman Jeff Sterling asked that discussion be tabled until Carter could get an estimate on how much it would cost for him to repair the 2008 Ford Expedition and get an inspection sticker for it.

At the same meeting, selectmen unanimously rejected a request from the Park Commission to purchase a three-quarter-ton pickup.

Selectmen will also discuss whether to approve a new police officer and whether to approve a property abatement request from the tax collector.
