Afternoon with Santa on Dec. 8

LEWISTON — An afternoon with Santa to benefit Many Hands Montessori School will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Life Ideals, 178 Lisbon St., third floor.

There will be a bake sale, kids’ activities and crafts, holiday movies, raffles, a craft fair and Santa. Suggested donation is $10 per family.

LEWISTON — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment 810 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at its new meeting place, Holy Cross Senior Hall, 16 St. Croix St.

Matter of Balance classes

LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus will hold Matter of Balance classes this winter in the Education Center.

Many older adults are concerned about falling and restrict their activities. This program teaches practical strategies to manage fear of falls. Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home and exercise to increase strength and balance.

This is an eight-week workshop, with each session lasting two hours. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon each Thursday from Jan. 16 to March 13 at the Education Center, 8 Falcon Road.
