LEWISTON — USM LAC Professor Brian Davenport was a speaker at the International Leadership Association’s 15th annual global conference held in Montreal, Canada, in November.

Davenport’s presentation, titled “Authentic Leadership vs. Web 3.0: A Fight for Identity and Relationship,” was given as a part of the conference’s program, Authentic Leadership: Perspectives from Neuroscience, Psychology, Human Development and Today’s Digital Age.

Davenport explored how authentic leadership is challenged to maintain self-knowledge and authentic relationships when interfacing with Internet social networks that are designed to reduce an individual’s character and qualities into pre-set categories and commentaries.

Davenport also recently published a paper in the International Journal of Servant Leadership, titled “Put Me in Coach, I’m Ready to Serve: The Servant-Leader as High School Coach.” In the paper the applications and impact of servant leadership in athletic coaching are explored. The Journal will be released in December.

Davenport joined the faculty in the Leadership Studies program at USM LAC in September. He had previously served as an adjunct professor at the Whitworth University’s School of Education in Spokane, Wash.. He received his Ph.D in leadership studies from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. in August. He resides in Lewiston.
