SALEM —   Junior guard Tom Marshall drained 17 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 46-42 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Roadrunners (0-1) opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to pull ahead by one. But the Falcons (1-0) responded with a 10-5 run the seal the deal.

Junior center Caleb Gauvin contributed 15 points for Mountain Valley, while senior forward Arthur Ryan led Mt. Abram with 13 points.

Spruce Mountain 66, Madison 42

JAY — Junior forward Deonte Ring and senior guard John McKenna provided 14 points each to lead Spruce Mountain to a 66-42 victory over Madison in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs (0-1) jumped out to a seven point lead in the first quarter, hitting three treys in the process. Derek Leblank tallied six field goals, including five from three-point range for a game-high 17 points for Madison.

The Pheonix (1-0) applied pressure and picked up the tempo in the second and third quarters to turn things around.

Hall-Dale 65, Telstar 33

BETHEL —   Brian Allen tossed a game-high 19 points to lead Hall-Dale to a 65-33 triumph over Telstar in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs took a 30-19 halftime lead. Nat Crocker contributed 10 points for Hall-Dale.

The Rebels were paced by Austin Ryerson with three 3-pointers for nine points.

Monmouth 50, Oak Hill 32
WALES —   Four different players scored eight points each as Monmouth executed a balanced attack for a 50-32 victory over Oak Hill in boys’ basketball action Saturday.
 
Brandon Goff, Marcus Houston, Smith and Tozier provided 32 of the Mustangs (1-0) total point count. Monmouth posted 23 points in the second quarter.
 
Parker Asselin connected for four field goals, including a pair of three pointers, and three free throws to lead the Raiders (0-1) with 13 points in the losing effort.

Girls
Spruce Mountain 48, Madison 30
MADISON —   Samantha Richards posted a game-high 14 points to lift Spruce Mountain to a 48-30 victory over Madison in girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs had taken an 18-15 lead at halftime. Bronte Elias tossed a team-high 10 points for Madison.
The Pheonix rose up in the second half, outpacing the Bulldogs 22-6 in the third quarter and 11-6 in the final frame. Emily Keene contributed 12 points for Spruce Mountain in the winning effort.

Hockey

GNG-Poland 3, South Portland 0

PORTLAND —   Junior center Ethan Cailler netted a pair of goals as Gray-New Gloucester-Poland sailed to a 3-0 victory over South Portland in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday.

Goalie Nick Hemond defended 13 shots for the 26er’s (1-0), including a pair of critical breakaways in the final period.

Goalie Shannon Tulley made 25 saves for the Red Riots (0-1).

Lewiston 4, York 0

ROCHESTER, N.H. —   Erica Lemieux scored a goal and an assist as the Lewiston skated to a 4-0 victory over York in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday.

The Blue Devils (4-0) scored all four of their goals in the second period.

Emily Mahoney performed goaltending duties for the Wildcats (0-2-1), while Paige Fontaine earned the win in net for Lewiston.

Women’s basketball

Bates 104, UMA 83

NORTHFIELD, Vt. —   Bates senior Meredith Kelly scored a team-record 42 points to propel the Bobcats to a 104-83 win over the University of Maine at Augusta in the consolation game of the four-team Ed Hockenbury Classic a Norwich University on Saturday.

Sophomore Chelsea Nason added 15 points, seven assists and seven steals, while junior Allaina Murphy of Poland Spring contributed 12 points and eight boards.

First-year Allie Coppola tossed in 10 points off the bench. Kelly was named to the all-tournament team.

Men’s basketball

CMCC 87, UMaine-Machias 66

MACHIAS —   Luis Medina posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists to pace Central Maine Community College to an 87-66 victory over the University of Maine at Machias in men’s basketball action Saturday.

 
Shaun Hill shot a game-high 23 points for the undefeated Mustangs (11-0), while Jalen Lincoln pitched in with 12 points. Aaron Van Buren secured 17 points for the Clippers.
