1923 – 2013

RUMFORD — Rose M. McInnis, 90, of Kennebec Street in Rumford, died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 9, at Rumford Community Hospital.

Rose was born in Mexico on Sept. 1, 1923, the daughter of Bruno and Rose (Samarco) Buccina. She was one of eight children. Rose was educated in Mexico schools, graduating in 1940. She married John D. McInnis on Jan. 16, 1943, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons.

She was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge No. 467 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1248. Rose enjoyed bowling and sports, and was an avid beano player. Rose was known to many as “Mama Rosa” and for her wonderful Italian cooking.

Rose was employed part-time with the Oxford Paper Co., the A & P Grocery Store and as a retail clerk at the Rumford Duffy Store.

Rose’s greatest love in life was her family and she was extremely close to her two grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Gammy.”

Survivors include her two sons, John Jr. and wife, Janet, of Scarborough and Timothy and wife, Brenda, of Rumford; sisters, Jennie Curato of Rumford and Annie Tripp and husband, Percy, of Westbrook; a brother, Joseph Buccina and his wife, Ollie, of Rumford; two grandchildren, Melissa Eberlin and husband, Wes, of Bradenton, Fla., and T.J. McInnis and wife, Kasey, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John; three sisters, Mary Sullivan, Elizabeth Melanson and Nancy Martin; and a brother, James Buccina.
