1940 – 2013

LITCHFIELD — Clarence “Dan” Carpenter, 73, of Litchfield, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on April 30, 1940, in Houlton, the son of Henry and Sadie Carpenter. He was educated in Houlton schools. After graduation, he joined the Army and was honorably discharged from service.

Clarence was a member of the William R. Bold American Legion Post 181. He was employed by Neil’s Transport as a truck driver until their doors closed. He worked at Bath Iron Works for 19 years before retiring.

He loved to tinker on small engines and putter around the house, and loved to spend time with his girls, Molly and Baby Girl, taking them for daily rides.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elaine (McNicol) Carpenter; three brothers, George, Paul and Billy; three sisters, Mary, Margaret and Theresa; his son, John and wife, Tammy; daughters, Marie Perry and significant other, Dana, and Mary Roy and fiance, Wendell; and nine grandchildren, Shana Berry “Rose,” Brandon, Tiffany, Samuel, Sarah, Katherine “Sadie,” Jordan, Allyson “Alf” and Hunter.

He was predeceased by a son, Daniel.
