1940 – 2013

RUMFORD – Richard N. Doughty, 73, of Roxbury, died Monday, Dec. 9, at the Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Portland on Nov. 4, 1940, and was the son of Merlin and June (Goodrich) Doughty. Richard served with the U.S. Coast Guard and then the U.S. Army, where he received his high school GED and attained the rank of SP4.

He was married in Lake Worth, Fla., on June 3, 1966, to the former Mary Patricia Wason of Roxbury. 

Richard served as a deputy sheriff in Florida for many years until retirement and became a caregiver, along with his wife, for several years. He also was a real estate broker in Florida and Doughty Realty in Freeport. He was also the credit manager for Eastland Shoe Company in Freeport for several years.

He was a pilot and served as a major with the Civil Air Patrol. Richard was a member of the Freeport Masonic Lodge 23, Oxford Masonic Lodge 18, Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 and American Legion, as well as being a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife; sisters, Deborah Mendez and husband, Eddie, of Topsham, and their daughter, Mindie Thibodaux, of Middleburg, Fla., and Patty MacLane and husband, Jack, and their son, Jake, of Newburyport, Mass.
