When Maine Winter Sports Center announced they would be closing Black Mountain back in June, it was quite a blow. Coming off of the best season in years thanks to $15 day tickets, $150 season passes, and a great advertising campaign which brought skiers and their families from across Maine and other states, it was clear to those involved in the Mountain’s operation that this was not the time to call it quits. What was not clear at the time, was how many people agreed, or exactly how much.

In a matter of days, and in some cases hours, after the announcement had been made, online fundraising campaigns were started, fundraisers were in the works, individuals were calling to inquire how they might donate either time or funds, and businesses were offering matching donation challenges and their services. The support came from the local River Valley area, and from across the country. The outcry was overwhelming, humbling, and truly inspiring.

We would like to thank all the individuals who generously donated to the fundraising effort, both monetarily and with supplies; every penny is appreciated and we realize they are not easy to come by these days. We would like to thank all the volunteers who devoted hours, days, weeks, and months to the fundraising effort; events were planned, envelopes were stuffed and stamped, and the word was spread faster and more precisely than we ever imagined.

We would like the thank the businesses that jumped into the fundraising effort with monetary donations and materials, supplies, and expertise; from large-scale matching donations to flyers and tickets for our fundraising events, snowmaking pipe to cut wood, and large material transportation to lift maintenance, we appreciate the assistance and support.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank the Maine Winter Sports Center and Libra Foundation for everything they have done for us over our 10-year relationship, and for giving us the opportunity to continue to do great things.

We are honored and deeply grateful to all of our supporters who recognized the value of this community ski area and made opening this season a reality. We hope to see you all on the slopes.
