FARMINGTON — A driver turned himself in to police Friday to face charges that include failing to stop for an officer.

Branden Shardlow, 21, of Jay was charged with driving to endanger and failure to stop for an officer early Friday morning after police spent part of the night trying to find him.

Shardlow reportedly was driving with an open container of alcohol at about 12:20 a.m. Friday, said Bonnie Pomeroy, Farmington police secretary.

Shardlow apparently pulled over and parked, Pomeroy said. When Farmington Officer Ryan Rosie approached the vehicle, Shardlow denied having alcohol and pulled out of the parking space, she said.

Rosie ordered Shardlow to stop. He drove off toward the downtown area in a reckless manner, Pomeroy said.

Several police became involved in a search for Shardlow and the red 2008 Chevy Cobalt he was driving, she said. The vehicle was found a couple of hours later behind an apartment on Court Street, but the driver was not there.

When Pomeroy arrived at the police station at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, Shardlow was standing there, waiting to turn himself in, she said.

He was arrested and taken to Franklin County Detention Center. He was in the process of making bail by mid-morning, according to an officer at the jail.
