MECHANIC FALLS — Ernest Albert Whitworth, “Ernie,” 66, of Poland, beloved husband and best friend of Melinda (Strout) Whitworth for the past 35 years, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Ernie was born in Lewiston on April 8, 1947. As a child, he grew up in Auburn and Rangeley, and Boca Grande, Fla. Ernie was a longtime resident of Poland.

Ernie had a lifelong career in construction with Callahan Brothers, CLH and the town of Poland. He was also a veteran of the National Guard. In his spare time, he would hunt and fish; spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; ride his motorcycle and most of all, he enjoyed being home with his dogs, Zeus, Apollo and Dinky Dog, and his wife.

Besides his wife, Melinda, Ernie is survived by his children: daughter, Lisa Cote and husband, Mike, of Livermore; daughter, Mona May Gallagher and husband, Mark, of Massachusetts; and son, Ty Whitworth of Poland; grandchildren, Devon Cady, Douglass Cote, Trinity Baker, Breanna Casey and Haley May Whitworth; and great-grandchildren, Douglass Cote Jr., Delaney Casey and Baylee Cote.

He was predeceased by his father, Ernest Whitworth; and mother, Helen Mitchell and her husband, George Mitchell.
