ROCKLAND — A Waldoboro woman escaped serious injuries but was arrested Friday night after her pickup truck knocked down a utility pole and cut power to a swath of Rockland for three hours.

Aleisa DeMichael, 38, was arrested and charged for operating under the influence of drugs, operating without a license, and three counts of possession of drugs, according to a news release by the Rockland Police Department.

DeMichael was traveling south on Camden Street at 7 p.m., left the roadway by the intersection of Front Street, traveled across the parking lot of the Scale House, and hit a utility pole that had a transformer. Her 2011 Nissan Frontier severed the pole, and the vehicle came to rest against a tree at the top of a steep embankment adjacent to SteelPro.

She was briefly trapped in the vehicle because there were power lines around the vehicle.

Her truck nearly struck a northbound vehicle.

Traffic on the road, also known as Route 1, was blocked temporarily.

DeMichael was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland Emergency Medical Services as a precaution and then to the Knox County Jail, according to Rockland police.

The truck was destroyed.

Power was knocked out to 670 Central Maine Power customers in Rockland for three hours.
