1923 – 2013

MECHANIC FALLS — Hazel C. Conant, 90, of Mechanic Falls, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, at her home, with her family by her side.

She was born in Mechanic Falls on April 11, 1923, the daughter of Daniel and Lucy Steward Coleman. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School and worked as the office manager for J. W. Penney Co., in Mechanic Falls for 44½ years. She married Francis R. Conant on Sept. 30, 1953; they enjoyed 54 years of marriage, before he passed away on April 30, 2008.

She was a member of No. 46 Oxford Grange until it closed, then transferring her membership to the No. 45 Norway Grange. She was also a member of the Mechanic Falls Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and crossword and word-search puzzles, as well as spending time at their summer camp on Bailey Island.

Hazel is survived by her son, Neal Conant and his wife, Patricia, of Mechanic Falls; two granddaughters, Roxa A. Conant and Crystal L. Conant; and a great-grandson, Elijah Clifford.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Raymond, Methyl, Roy and Myrtle.
