LEWISTON — New city councilors will get a crash course in Lewiston government Thursday with a four-hour orientation session.
The meeting, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in City Hall, will be open to the public.
It will begin with an introduction by City Administrator Ed Barrett, followed by an introduction to state and federal rules — Freedom of Access and Maine Right to Know laws, City Council email policies and National Incident Management rules — and City Council procedures.
Councilors are scheduled to begin reviewing operations at individual departments at about 6 p.m., followed by discussions of agencies shared with the city of Auburn, labor relations and personnel matters and pending City Council issues.
Three new councilors were elected in November: Ward 1’s Leslie Dubois, Ward 5’s Kristen Cloutier and Ward 7’s Michael Lachance.
“It’s their meeting, but all of the councilors are invited,” Barrett said.
Lewiston councilors, School Committee members and Mayor Robert Macdonald are scheduled to be sworn in for the 2014-15 terms at the Jan. 6 inaugural ceremony at the Franco Center.
