FARMINGTON — McDonald’s reopened about 4 p.m. Thursday after being closed since 9 a.m. due to a kitchen fire.

Customers and employees left the fast-food restaurant when a fryolator caught fire. The flames reached the vents above the fryer, shift leader Alix Mason said.

About 10 members of Farmington Fire and Rescue responded, clearing the building of smoke and working to determine the cause.

About 20 customers and nine employees were in the restaurant at the time of the fire, Mason said. No one was injured.

A three-section fryolator was the only thing that received notable damage, fire Chief Terry Bell said. There was no structural damage and smoke passed through the ventilation system on the roof, he said.

Employees were starting the fryolator when it caught fire, he said.

An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to help determine the origin and cause of the fire. A state health inspector was also called about noon to do a routine check, he said.
