NORWAY — Two men were arrested on drug charges Wednesday night during a downtown traffic stop.
Brock Leach, 37, of Oxford and Anthony Moore, 37, of Otisfield appeared in 11th District Court on Friday afternoon.
Leach is charged with felony drug possession and violation of bail conditions. He was arrested Dec. 13 on aggravated drug trafficking charges after police reportedly found heroin packaged for sale on him during a traffic stop in Oxford.
Moore faces a felony drug possession charge.
According to a report from Norway police officer Mitchell Shaw, Shaw observed an older-model Jeep with a “loud exhaust” driving on Main Street around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday. It turned into the parking lot of Stephens Memorial Hospital and stopped. He approached it and asked the driver where he was going and to provide identification.
According to Mitchell, Moore replied that he and his passenger were going to get smokes and pulled into the parking lot because they were being followed by Mitchell.
Moore said he did not have identification and Leach provided his driver’s license. Mitchell, who was joined by another Norway officer and Oxford police Sgt. Rickie Jack, searched Leach, whose bail conditions made him subject to random searches.
Police found no items on Leach, but a glass marijuana pipe was clearly visible inside the vehicle, according to Mitchell.
A further search of the Jeep uncovered 24 Vicodin pills on the driver’s side, as well as a container with a small amount of marijuana and a small, stainless steel plate with a powdery residue on it in the console between the passenger and driver seats, Mitchell reported.
When questioned, Moore admitted he did not have a prescription for the painkillers, according to Mitchell.
The two men were arrested and booked at Oxford County Jail in South Paris. While turning in his clothing while being booked, police found a small pill container will 17 oxycodone pills, each 30 milligrams, in one of Leach’s socks, according to Mitchell.
Moore was released from jail Friday afternoon after posting $500 cash. Leach remained behind bars on a $2,500 cash bail and a requirement of a Maine Pre-Trial Services Contract.
