LEWISTON — The Bates Dance Festival, northern New England’s leading contemporary dance training and presenting program, announces its 32nd season, June 27-Aug. 10.

The festival includes the renowned Professional Training Program for dancers 18 years and older from July 19-Aug. 10, offering 30 classes a day in a wide range of dance disciplines; and the Young Dancers Workshop, a three-week intensive training program for pre-professional dancers ages 14-18, to be held from June 27-July 19.

Complementing these programs, the festival hosts creative residencies for accomplished companies and choreographers, as well as lectures, panels and performances by more than 40 internationally renowned dance artists from around the globe.

Recognized throughout the dance world for its noncompetitive environment and emphasis on experimentation, the Bates Dance Festival each summer brings more than 340 students to the Bates College campus from across the United States and overseas to study, create and perform.

Highlighting the festival’s 2014 season are workshops, residencies and performances by the acclaimed New York City troupes Camille A. Brown & Dancers and David Dorfman Dance; Boston’s finest contemporary company, Prometheus Dance; South Africa’s Vincent Mantsoe; and Chinese-born choreographer Yin Mei, as well as members of Delfos Danza, among others.

Dance writer Debra Cash will lead “Inside Dance,” an audience-enrichment program held in conjunction with the mainstage concert series.

The three-week Professional Training Program’s courses include modern, jazz, ballet, Afro-fusion, contact improvisation, repertory, choreo lab, creative process, yoga, Pilates, Taiji Quan, teacher’s toolkit, the business of dance and more. Among the festival’s extensive roster of artists are popular and frequently requested veteran teachers David Dorfman, Lisa Race, Jennifer Nugent, Rachel List, Mark Dendy, Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser and Cathy Young.

The Young Dancers Workshop is a structured, noncompetitive program based on intensive study with a gifted faculty that includes modern teachers Charlotte Griffin and Karl Rogers; veteran ballet instructors Shonach Mirk Robles and Martha Tornay; jazz teacher Courtney B. Jones; West African specialist Shani Collins-Achille; improvisation teacher Pamela Vail; and repertory with choreographer and teacher Tommy Neblett.

Known for its emphasis on the integral relationship between dance and music, the festival engages a roster of acclaimed musicians who accompany classes and present an annual concert. This summer accompanists Rajesh Bhandari, Adam Crawley, Glen Fittin, Peter Jones, Carl Landa, Jesse Manno and Shamou will be in residence.
