DIXFIELD — The Dixfield American Legion will be hosting its annual New Year’s Eve party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31, where those attending will have the opportunity to win handcrafted items.

The doors will open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 per person or $10 per couple.

Financial officer Ed Ellis said that this is the third year that he’s been involved with the New Year’s Eve party and the second year that the American Legion has invited Rumford music group Noel Palmer and Don to perform.

One new element of the New Year’s Eve party, according to Ellis, is a fundraiser, where those attending will have the chance to win different handcrafted items, including two cowboy hats made out of cardboard beer can boxes and a solid oak shadow box.

“We had a 15-year-old girl from East Dixfield make the cardboard hats for us,” Ellis said. “She teaches different art classes at her school and is very articulate with her artistry. She made the hats out of the beer boxes and told us we could raffle them off.”

Ellis explained that a shadow box is used to hold a funeral flag and that the one available at the New Year’s Eve fundraiser was handcrafted by a Rumford resident.

Tickets for both the cardboard hats and the shadow box are one for $1 or six for $5.

Snacks will also be provided during the night of the party, Ellis said.
