A local music-lover, noting the announcement Saturday that the Portland municipal organ concerts that allow admissions had brought into that city treasury a total of over $11,000 and netted a profit of $2,355, raised the question if Lewiston could not have similar advantages. Mention was made of the new and expensive organ at Bates College which will be the best in the two cities and the feeling was voiced that it would be regrettable for this instrument to be used solely for the benefit of the students.

Construction of the Lewiston Falls Hydroelectric Project remains two to three weeks behind schedule, but crews will stay on the job through the winter to prevent further delays, the project engineer said last week. He said the utility is still aiming for a September 1990 start-up date for the 25 megawatt power station, named for CMP Vice President Charles E. Monty. Cold weather last winter forced workers off the job for several days, but this year most of the 110 workers will remain busy in the lower levels of the plant’s shell, now covered with tarps to keep out frigid winds. In the past year, the project has progressed from a 70-foot pit blasted through ledge to the poured concrete walls and tunnels that will house the station’s generating system. By summer, workers should be building the upper levels of the station, designed to match the surrounding mills with brick facades, garrison-style roofs and granite slabs above and below the structure’s windows.
