BREWER — An Ellsworth woman and her 3-year-old son escaped injury Monday morning after their vehicle collided with a plow truck on Route 1A, police said.
Alanna Edwards, 31, had just exited Interstate 395 onto Route 1A eastbound when the accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m., Maine State Police Trooper Chris Hashey said at the scene.
Edwards apparently had been following a Maine Department of Transportation vehicle driven by Brian Austin a little too closely, and the right side of her vehicle slammed into the rear of the truck when Austin slowed down after exiting the interstate, Hashey said.
“I’d say she totaled her car, and it’s good the impact was on the [passenger] side of the vehicle,” said Hashey.
The impact caused the boy to bump his head, but he was otherwise uninjured. Edwards and Austin weren’t injured, the trooper said.
“There’s absolutely no excuse for a crash like this to happen,” Hashey said. “You just have to leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.”
Brewer paramedics and state police responded to the scene.
