CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The University of Maine picked up its first win in over a month on Sunday night with a 89-85 overtime upset of Middle Tennessee State in the Dr. Pepper Classic.
Dmitry Akanda-Coronel scored a game-high 27 points and junior forward Kilian Cato made his return to the lineup with 12 points for the Black Bears (2-9).
The win is the Bears’ first since Nov. 10 against Fisher. Middle Tennessee drops to 8-5.
After returning to the lineup following academic ineligibility in the first semester of the season, Cato made his presence felt in the waning moments of the second half, as he threw down a dunk with 1:29 remaining in regulation time, knotting the score at 74-74.
The Black Bears then scored 15 points in the overtime period with a Zarko Valjarevic trey highlighting the effort.

Sacred Heart 76, Maine 75
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The University of Maine came up short in the end as it dropped a 76-75 decision at Sacred Heart (3-8) on Sunday afternoon.
Lauren Bodine led Maine (6-6) with a career-high 24 points, making six of nine three-point attempts. Sigi Koizar and Anna Heise added 12 points apiece.
The Pioneers (3-8) had four scorers total double-figures, led by Gabrielle Washington’s 13 points.
Sacred Heart led 75-72 with under 40 seconds to play. The Black Bears had control in their own end and worked out of a pair of timeouts to get the look they wanted but failed to score. The Pioneers hit a free throw to take a four point lead before Bodine knocked down her sixth three of the game as time ran out.
