Organized baseball for Lewiston, specifically the transfer of the Brockton franchise of the New England League, is the proposition which will be put before the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, the Lewiston City Government, and the baseball enthusiasts of the two cities. Joe Burns, sole owner of the Brockton franchise, has given his word to Michael J. McDonough of this city that he is willing to come to this city if the city will give him a chance to place the team. In other words, the construction of a suitable playing field, and lease to Mr. Burns on reasonable terms, will mean that he will bring the Brockton team here and that Lewiston will be the eighth city on the New England League circuit.

Local children and their parents gave the public library a Christmas present of toys to replace those lost in a fire last month. A Nov. 29 fire in a small children’s playroom in the library called “The Mouse Hole” caused $3,001 worth of damage to the room, said Library Director Richard Speer. The fire, which fire officials said appeared to have been deliberately started with a candle in a box of toys, also destroyed the toys, Susan Pease, children’s librarian, said the toddlers and pre-schoolers who came to the library for the story sessions held there “were so disappointed that The Mouse Hole wasn’t there anymore.”
