1976 – 2013

NEWRY — Charles E. Hopkins Jr., “Chooch,” died unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in Newry on Thursday, Dec. 26.

He was born on May 17, 1976, to Charles E. Hopkins Sr. and Roxanne J. Berry. He graduated from Telstar Regional High School in 1995. He worked at many local restaurants, including the Boiler Room (where he first learned to cook with his mentor, Gary Savage Sr.), Lakeside Restaurant, Bottle and Bag, Gould Academy and most recently at Sunday River Ski Resort.

He loved to watch wrestling with his younger brother and the Red Sox and Patriots with his stepdad. He loved to cook and watch cooking shows, and he never missed a cookout. Chooch loved to shop with his mother and lunch at the Kowloon Village. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He always had a smile or a kind word that could turn a bad day into a good one.

He is survived by his best friend, his dog, Bruiser; his father, Charles; his parents, Rocky and Scott Berry; brother, Devon; sister, Carolyn Hall; stepsister, Mandy Berry; stepbrother, Jason Berry and his wife, Sarah; along with several nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ragan; his uncle, Fenton Damon; his aunt, Sylvia Tutko; and all grandparents.
