PARIS —  The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2014 Christmas Parade theme: “The Night Before Christmas.” The 2014 parade will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, starting in Norway.

The Chamber parade committee is looking forward to seeing floats depict that Christmas story as well as express their own Christmas Eve traditions.

“Most people know the story ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of floats with Ma in her kerchief and Pa in his cap, along with other images from this classic Christmas story,” said Jennifer Boenig, chairwoman of the Chamber’s Christmas Parade. “I also know many families have their own special Christmas Eve traditions and hopefully some floats will also depict those traditions.”

The Festival of Trees will run the same weekend as the Christmas Parade. Businesses and community organizations decorate an artificial tree, which is then raffled off to a lucky winner. Winners take the tree, all the decorations and any gifts placed on or under the tree.

The chamber also donates 20 percent of the proceeds from the event to Rightstart for its Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens programs. This year that donation totaled $800.

“The chamber’s charity of choice is Rightstart,” said John Williams, executive director of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce. “In addition to the Christmas programs, which help hundreds of Oxford Hills families each year, Rightstart also runs the Coat Room, organizes book swaps and offers summer tutoring programs.”
