RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted Thursday to approve the $8,500 copier bid from Transco Business Technologies.

The copier would replace a seven-year-old model, interim Town Manager John Madigan said.

Selectman Jeff Sterling said Transco Business Technologies is “an excellent company.

“I’ve worked with them with Sunday River in the past. In most cases, a copier is a copier is a copier, but what sold me on Transco Business Technologies was how quickly they were able to respond to any issues we had. They don’t leave you waiting,” he said.

Selectman Brad Adley was curious at why the suggested retail price for the copier they were purchasing was a little over $21,000, even though they were purchasing it for $8,500.

Looking at the prices, Madigan admitted it was quite a deal.

Later, Rumford treasurer Deborah Laurinaitis confirmed that the $8,500 was correct.

Selectmen kicked off the meeting by welcoming Madigan, who signed a contract Dec. 19 to be part-time town manager.

Rumford and Mexico are sharing his services.

“I just wanted to wish you good luck, John,” Adley said. “I think we’re going to be fine. It’s a new year, and I’m hoping for a good one.”

Selectman Jolene Lovejoy agreed, saying, “It’s time to start over. I think with a new year, we should forget the past, bring a new attitude with us and start fresh.”

Sterling said he was “confident that this will be the first of many meetings to come with John at the town manager’s seat.”

Chairman Greg Buccina said he believed Madigan “would be helpful in helping out with future interactions between Rumford and Mexico.”

The board also unanimously approved an agreement between Rumford and RSU 10 involving budget matters.

Madigan said the agreement took effect July 1, 2013, but Rumford must not have received a copy of it.
