AUGUSTA — Maine Adult Education will hold its annual Statehouse Day in the Hall of Flags from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 9.
The event provides the adult education programs in Maine an opportunity to visit their legislators. Programs will have informational table displays in the Hall of Flags. Several programs will bring groups of adult learners to visit sessions of the House and Senate, tour the Statehouse and visit the Maine State Museum.
At 11:30 a.m., a program in the State House Hall of Flags will highlight the work of Maine Adult Education with a focus on the close-out of the GED as the high school equivalency test, and the launch of Hi-SET, the new test produced by Educational Testing Service.
Speakers will include Commissioner of Education James Rier, Pam Crate of FAME, and several student speakers, including Ashley Miller of North Yarmouth, who responded to the marketing efforts encouraging GED completion developed and underwritten by FAME, and completed her GED on Dec. 5. The 2013 totals for GED in Maine increased by more than 50 percent over 2012, with totals to be announced in January.
Other adult learners will speak about the Maine College Transitions program focused on college success, and WorkReady focused on workplace readiness.
