Quit for Life workshops
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and Healthy Androscoggin have partnered to offer “Quit for Life,” a five-week workshop available to anyone interested in quitting tobacco. The workshop will take place Wednesdays, Jan. 15 through Feb. 12 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Maureen Higgins, LCSW, and Emily Dooling, MS Health Promotion Coordinator, Tobacco Prevention, will offer instruction on preparing to quit, getting through the first few days, avoiding triggers and developing coping strategies.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free Ayurveda workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Ayurveda: The Science of Life” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Sophia Maamouri, LMT, will introduce you to Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old system of health care from India. It is a system based on natural healing through strengthening the body, mind and spirit and allowing the body’s own healing mechanism to work to its optimum. Learn how Ayurveda can help you attain a deeper understanding of self in relationship to the world around you.

Bartending course starts Jan. 22
AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a bartending course on Wednesdays, Jan. 22 through March 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $379 and includes all materials.
Registration deadline is Jan. 16.
Students will learn the basics of professional bartending and mixology and its application in restaurants, clubs and function facilities. This course also includes the Maine Course, which is a six-hour seminar in the responsible service of alcohol and is highly recommended by the State of Maine Liquor Commission and the Department of Human Services.

Body image workshop planned
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free body image workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Body Image: Coping with Changes Inside and Out” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Theresa Beaudette, LCSW, ACHP-SW, Oncology Counselor, will lead this program on how your body image impacts your life and your relationships and learn ways to accept the new you.
This is the first of a six-part series, “Living Well with and Beyond Cancer,” designed to help people better understand and cope with cancer’s impact on mind, body and spirit. Attendees may sign up for individual sessions or for the entire series. Upcoming programs include Intimacy and Sexuality (Jan. 23), Fighting Fatigue (Jan. 30), Self-care and Effective Communication (Feb. 6), Cancer and the Spirit (Feb. 13) and The New Normal (Feb. 20).
