L.L.Bean’s Annual Winter Carnival, Jan. 18-19

A fun, free outdoor event for the whole family featuring cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, geocaching, snow carving and more

FREEPORT — Internationally known outdoor retailer L.L.Bean will host its annual Winter Carnival, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 18 and 19. This family-oriented event is free and will feature a wide array of activities designed to help families discover new activities and enjoy the great Maine outdoors in an active and fun way.

“L.L.Bean has always been about making it as easy as possible for people, especially families to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors,” said Gretchen Ostherr, Outdoor Discovery Schools manager at L.L.Bean. “And we’ve designed this event to remove all of the barriers to participation to make it very easy for folks to get out and enjoy the winter in Maine. It’s free, all of the equipment is provided at our Winter Sports Center, as well as all of the instructional know-how. This is a great opportunity to try some new activities and come out and play in the snow with L.L.Bean.”

Activities include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, with all of the equipment and instruction provided, a sledding hill, ice fishing demonstrations, winter camping demonstrations, kids’ snow carving, geocaching, horse-drawn sleigh rides and hot cocoa and music around a campfire. Plus, folks can also meet real sled dogs and see how the dogs are assembled and harnessed.

Free shuttle transportation is required to L.L.Bean’s Winter Sports Center from L.L.Bean’s Bike, Boat and Ski Store. All event activities are free. Appropriate winter apparel and footwear are strongly recommended. For more information, call 877-755-2326 or visit ll.bean.com/freeport.
