1918 – 2014
LEWISTON — Sister Mary Madeline Lemieux, 95, died at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Mary Madeline was born in North Vassalboro on May 15, 1918, the daughter of Joseph Levi and Viola (Corriveau) Lemieux. Growing up in North Vassalboro, she attended public schools there. In 1941, Mary Madeline entered the Ursuline Novitiate in Waterville, where she pronounced her religious vows in 1943.
Throughout her religious life, her ministry or service to God and to her community was exemplary. She served in communities in three states: Beacon, N.Y.; Dedham, Boston and Springfield, Mass.; and Brunswick, Belgrade, Sanford and Waterville.
She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Perrin of Lewiston; one brother, Joseph and his wife, Theresa, of Fairfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Peter, Philip, Alfred, Norbert and Benedict; and four sisters, Sister Mary Virginia, also an Ursuline Sister, Josephine Bouthot, Virginia Duncan and Catherine Lord.
The Ursuline Sisters and Sister’s family wish to thank the staff at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, 3 West and Beacon Hospice for their devoted care given to Sr. Mary Madeline.
