Recent warm weather will not stop the Maine Youth Fish and Game Association from holding its annual free ice fishing day for kids this Saturday, Jan. 18 at its clubhouse on Pickerel Pond from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
MYFGA officials said Thursday they had checked conditions at the pond, and there is still ten inches of ice, making it safe for the event, where MYFGA provides everything for a family to have an enjoyable day of ice fishing on Pickerel Pond. Fishing on the pond is limited by state law to those under age 16.
Holes will be drilled in the ice, and bait and ice fishing traps will be provided by MYFGA. Hot and cold beverages and a hot dog lunch will also be provided free of charge.
