1924 – 2014

AUBURN — Kathleen H. Yeaton Ray, a resident of Poland, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with her family by her side.

She was born in Winslow on Aug. 20, 1924, the daughter of George D. and Josephine (Reynolds) Hodges. She attended Winslow schools and graduated in the Class of 1942. She went on to attend Farmington Normal School (now UMF), graduating in 1946, with a degree in home economics. She taught in Guilford for one year.

Kay married Leroy “Roy” Otis Yeaton on June 22, 1947, in Winslow, and they built their home on Lower Main Street in Farmington, where they lived for more than 25 years; Roy passed away on Nov. 25, 1972, at their home. Kay worked for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for 29 years as a social worker in Franklin and Oxford counties.

On Feb. 18, 1977, she married Robert Ray of Poland in Concord, N.H., and they made their home at 12 Jackson Road in Poland; Bob passed away on Sept. 1, 1994.

Kay enjoyed her camp at Clearwater Lake, traveling, quilting, braiding rugs, gardening and her African violets. She always looked forward to visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Farmington Methodist Church and Lewiston YWCA. She was also a member of the Farmington and Poland Extension and the Poland Quilters Group.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Sirois and husband, Larry, of Turner; her two sons, Donald Yeaton and wife, Sylvia, of Farmington and Neal Yeaton and wife, Camilla, of Farmington; her sister, Harriet Robbins of Cabot, Vt.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
