All this week, during the matinee performances of Hardeen, “King of Handcuffs,” he will present an entertainment that will strongly appeal to the ladles, also evoke from them an interest seldom if ever attained by any other performer visiting this city. Hardeen is a brother to the famous Houdini, and what one does, so does the other. During Hardeen’s engagement at Music Hall last season his audiences numbered a great many ladies, who displayed a desire to see this physically perfect man, whose reputation as an escape artist is such that his coming is hailed with delight in every corner of the globe. Wonderful it is, when one stops to consider the small admission fee charged to witness such a performance as Hardeen’s.

Despite opposition from some New Auburn residents, a development firm is likely to resubmit plans for creating 18 low- to moderate-income apartments from a former Second Street bakery, a consultant said Monday. The ZBA had rescinded an earlier vote and allowed the higher density, after the development firm proposed constructing a recreation room in the building at the corner of Cook and Second streets. Residents who live near the former LePage bakery told the board they did not want the apartment complex in their neighborhood.
