LIVERMORE — The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore will present a Valentine’s Day dinner and historical program titled “Keepers of the Hearth: The Love, Courtship, and Marriages of the Washburn Women.” Come to the Norlands for a delicious heritage dinner and entertaining living history programming in a setting like no other in Maine.

Dinner begins in the Farmer’s Cottage at 6:30 p.m. and includes arugula and strawberry salad, squash soup, herbed chicken breast with wild rice and mushrooms, green beans, and cheesecake for dessert. Vegetarian/vegan options are available.

After enjoying dinner, step back into the 19th century with a visit from “Patty Washburn” and her three daughters, Martha, Mary, and Caroline, who will be portrayed by Norlands’ staff (Willi Irish, Renee Bonin, Claire Tanner, and Robin Hakala) in period costume.

The women will share their stories from a time when a woman’s entire mission in life was finding a husband and having children. Hear their tales of adventure and courtship and of their success in finding love, a husband, marriage, and building a family. The ladies of the house will then entertain you with some romantic music of the period, accompanied by guest Alan Hakala on guitar. The program concludes with an evening tour of the 1867 Washburn family mansion.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. Seating is limited. The deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Feb. 12. To purchase tickets, call 207-897-4366 or email norlands@norlands.org.

In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to the following day, Saturday, Feb. 15.
