1934 – 2014
LISBON FALLS — James W. Meyer, 79, of Lisbon Falls, passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 25, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1934, in Augusta, Ky., a son of the late William J. and Lola E. (Edwards) Meyer. James served his country in the U.S. Army for 21 years, in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also served in Turkey, two tours in Germany, in Italy and in Alaska, before it became a legal state in the U.S. Thirteen-and-a-half out of his 21 years of service were spent overseas, before retiring with an honorable discharge in 1974.
After retiring from the service, he worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Durfee’s Flooring, the Brunswick Naval Air Station base and at L.L. Bean’s maintenance retail store. He also served on the Advisory Board in Lisbon.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty A. Meyer; eight children, Jeffrey Montgomery and wife, Karen, of Dover, Ky., Julie A. Garland and companion, James Lindberg, of Durham, Connie L. Strople of Skowhegan, James A. Meyer and wife, Susan, of Fayetteville, N.C., William M. Meyer of Harleysville, Pa., Thornton R. Meyer of Portland, Ronald C. Meyer of South Thomaston and Timothy W. Meyer of Lisbon Falls; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Edwards Meyer Bell; and his father, William J. Meyer, of Augusta, Ky.
