NEWRY — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of construction tools from building sites near Sunday River Ski Resort.

According to Chief Deputy Hart Daley, Deputy Peter Casey was called to home sites near Vista Road, on the side of Mt. Will last week for a theft complaint.

Through interviews with contractors at two construction sites, Casey determined that nine nail guns and other tools were taken. Physical evidence was collected at the scene, but the Sheriff’s Office does not have any suspects in the case, Daley said.

In response to the thefts, last week Casey conducted additional patrols and property checks in the area, but the patrols have been suspended and the department has received no further complaints, Daley said.

“Everybody that covers the Bethel area now has been making themselves highly visible in that area,” Daley said. “I’m sure that’s going to curtail it for a while, but it is like putting a Band-Aid on something,” he said.

He encouraged anyone with information about the case to contact the Sheriff’s Office confidential tip line at 800-733-1421, and press 5.
